Should I get a PSP?
I'm going to be travelling a lot and am going to be in places where I will have nothing to do. I plan to use the PSP for movies, games, and some music.
The trouble is that is it still worth it for the PSP? I've read reviews but they are all outdated (2 years ago) as new technology comes out. I was debating on whether or not a PSP or a video iPod was a good choice, but I already have a regular iPod so it will be kind of pointless for me to get another one. Also since i can't torrent movies and put them on the PSP (due to UMD video) I must buy actual games/videos to use.
Can anyone shed some light on this dilemma?

Well, I have heard good reviews, but there are also bad reviews. Price is a big issue - not only is the psp itself expensive, but you have to use special sony media cards with it, and a 1gb one of those costs as much as the psp itself...

I have one and it's usually pretty good. The best games for it that I've played are probably Tekken Dark Resserection (the bowling minigame is addictive), Valkyrie Profile, and Lumines. I've also heard good things about hotshots gold and wipeout fusion.
The movie side is a bit of a weakness for the system. They didn't release with a good movie line up and what got released afterwards has run the gambit. Part of the problem is UMDs lost a lot of support from the movie companies. I think they are going to make movies on flash cards, but I'm not sure where that is going.
Other benefits: it can double as an MP3 player, play some forms of video clips (.wavs and such), and be used as a photo album.
My best suggstion is take a look at the movies and games you can get and see if you like them. The screen is small, but movies like Kung FU Hustle and FF Advent Children look great on it.

I'd advise getting one, you've got all the obvious standard stuff like Movies and MP3s ETC.... But if you play around with it you can run all sorts of programs, from turning your PSP into a TV remote, to playing old classic games on emulators.

You can, just convert it into PSP friendly video MP4 codec using an application like PSP video 9. If running a modified PSP you can run it at full screen resolution, meaning it has pretty much the same quality as well. And if you were to get one, make sure you get one fast before Sony decide to upgrade the firms wares on new shipments, meaning you may be left without some of the features above. ^_^

Thanks for all the quick replies. I am pretty sure I am getting one as I checked out some of the games mentioned and they seem pretty fun.
For a first time buyer, what should I buy besides just the actual PSP? Do you recommend any bonus packs etc? I've read alot about how you need to buy all this extra stuff to keep your PSP in optimal condition. So I'm wondering what comes in the box with the PSP, and is there anything additional I should keep my eye out for while I'm at the store?

If you don't like earbuds, you might want to get slightly better ear phones. You might want to consider getting a protective case for it. I think the PSP comes with a cloth to clean the screen, but if it doesn't be sure to get one. I also got a big carrying case that could carry my PSP, some games, and all the cords and headphones.
